"Quarantine" | the creative writer

This was written in early 2020.

---

Inside these blank walls we stay patiently within,
All quiet rooms inside what's considered 'home',
Away from lovable relatives and fun friends,
No visiting any of them,
No visitors being welcomed either,
No social gatherings at all;
Within these white walls we pass precious time,
At home, the default location.
COVID-19 may still be out there,
Waiting to spread,
A vicious virus behaving accordingly,
In order to infect.
However, life goes on for the rest of us,
We continue our daily rituals,
Binge-watching TV shows if we must,
To avoid boredom,
To prevent insanity.
Alcohol consumption may have increased,
To be in an elevated state,
To help cope,
Temporary closure for the moment,
A cure,
An answer to the times.
Gathering strength to face it all,
To be productive seems ideal,
But not all can reach such a state,
As worries, anxiety, stress, and problems accumulate,
We find ourselves numb,
Without answers,
With obstacles along our pathway.
Although normality may come in the distance,
What we are facing is crucial,
To what we may learn,
About ourselves,
And about others,
As to what we may become.
So, be on your best behaviour,
Or at your worst,
Never mind the audience,
Thrive,
To inspire,
To be an example of what it is to be,
To be a genuine human being.
